Before I moved to the USA, I always thought that my parent did not care about me. They were always busy with their work. When we moved to the United States, all the misunderstandings were finally dispelled. I realized that my parents sacrificed a lot for me. Since they wanted me to get good education, and built a decent career, they decided to immigrate to the United States, even though they knew it would be very difficult for them to adapt to the new environment because of their poor English, their age etc. Besides, by immigrating to the United States, they also took a big risk investing huge capitals to develop a new business in an unfamiliar place, giving up business opportunities in Hong Kong. In addition, my mother needed to stay in Hong Kong all alone to manage her company. After I analyzed these factors, I understood how much they sacrificed to provide us better learning opportunities, and career perspectives. Therefore, I did not want to disappoint them. it became motivating force for me that helped to constantly improve my academic skills and personal qualities.

The process of adapting to the new environment in the United States was another external force that influenced me positively. Adapting to a new environment was not easy for me. When I lived in Hong Kong I did not pay attention to my English, and afterwards it became the biggest obstacle for me to adapt to the American culture. When moved here, I failed the English placement test in Mt. San Antonio College, which was the requirement to enroll in this school. Therefore, I joined a learning institution called CPELI in Cal Poly Pomona State University. CPELI was an ESL program that specialized to help the English learners not only to improve their English skill, but also to establish social ties with other classmates. Through that program I made a lot of new friends from different countries. I saw the amount of effort they put to improve their English, and I found out that almost all of them shared the goal to enter prestigious colleges. When I compared myself with them, I understood that we had a huge gap in skills and aspiration. In order not to fall behind, I put in a lot of effort to catch up with them. During that period, besides attending school, I spend most of my time in library and did a lot of extra reading. I also decided I wanted to enter a good university, like University of Southern California. By the time I graduated from the program. my English had improved a lot, and I even passed the placement test in the MT. San Antonio College. I was happy that I joined CPELI. It was an important step that helped me build up my confidence to adapt to the new environment, and also, which is even more important, helped me set my academic goals.

Now I understand how valuable for me was the opportunity of changing my settlement Lots of other people do not have such an opportunity, so I have to value what I have, and let the people who are around me, especially my parents, know that I would not disappoint them, and would do well in my education. In respect of retail work, additional protection has been afforded by the statute. A retail worker is any person carrying out retail transactions selling, which have been defined as the supplying of goods or services5. However, this additional protection has not been provided to those who transact only with companies. Moreover, an employer cannot make deductions in excess of a tenth of the gross wages in respect of shortages or stock deficiencies6. The time limit for making such deductions has been set at twelve months, unless the deduction forms part of a series of such deductions in respect of shortages or deficiencies. Furthermore, such deductions have to be made subsequent to informing the employee the exact amount due from him. Such communication of information has to be in writing and has to be made on a pay day7.

Any employee, irrespective of the length of service put up, who is of the opinion that an unlawful deduction from wages has been made by the employer or if the employee has been required to make an unlawful payment may approach the Employment tribunal in order to obtain redressal for such grievance.

The time limit for lodging such complaints is in general three months from the due date of payment of the wages or within such period as permitted by the Employment tribunal8. This three months limitation period in respect of payments by the worker to the employer is determined from the date of receipt of payment by the employer. If a series of deductions or payments are involved, then under such circumstances this three months period is to be reckoned from the date of the last deduction or payment in the series. However, this time limit can be extended by a further three more months under specific circumstances as per the provisions of the statutory dismissal, disciplinary and grievance procedures introduced from the 1st of October 20049.

“The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien is a novel based on war stories as told by the author. It tells of how the protagonist, Tim O’Brien got himself into fighting during the Vietnam War and what his experiences on the battlefield were. He confessed that his reason for joining the army was not because he believed in the war’s cause, but because his fear of shame. Disappointing his family and guilt about trying to avoid that war were more important to him than his own beliefs and convictions. He described how soldiers died their own painful but honorable deaths and how these affected those who were left behind. O’Brien was able to show how the soldiers’ relationships and interaction among themselves were not limited to their profession but have become more personal. Those who fought the Vietnam War had bigger enemies than the ones who held M16 rifles and grenades. They each had their own personal distress, anxiety, and grief to battle against (O’Brien, 1990).

On the other hand, “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque tells stories of the killing and fighting that happened during World War I. The experiences of Paul, the main character, are told as he enlisted himself in the German army after believing that what he is about to do is solely for the sake of nationalism and patriotism. But after having met some of the other enlistees and after going through harsh training under Corporal Himmelstoss, they all realize that what they previously perceived as the glorious rewards of war are nothing but the products of their superiors’ fronts. Nevertheless, Paul had to be where duty calls and, therefore experiences the adversities it entails. As they spent months in the warfare, with only little time spared to share with their families, Paul starts to lose his friends, as they die one by one. In the end, Paul Baumer himself dies on a day when all is quiet on the western front (Remarque, 1928).

An obviously shared theme between the two novels is that both are stories about war and the lives of the soldiers as told by those who have actually been to the battlefield and have experienced all the hardships. Factual or fictional, both stories are based on real incidents and both reflect and mean to show how the true face of war is different from what is perceived by most people.

An issue discussed by both authors is the effect of war on the soldiers or those who fight for their country and countrymen. Again, not only are these heroes confronted with the risks of being harmed or killed but also with the burden of missing those they have left or are waiting for them back home. Not only do they have to think about strategies to stay alive or defeat the enemy, but also how to survive the longing caused by their separation from their loved ones.

The person who is in contact of different person will know about the things happening in the world and thus might able to distinguish the between the right and wrong.

features about the facts. The books thus give the reality based knowledge. This lead the person to reduce prejudice as the books imparts the right knowledge. The theory and study of contact has been evaluated as the best study for reducing the prejudice as contacts put the right scenario of the world in our mind. Thus this study is best one to reduce the prejudice.
